Ermita de la Victoria

The former hermitage 'Ermita de La Victoria' lies on the peninsula of Alcudia, completely in the north of Majorca, in an idyllic, untouched mountain landscape. Far away from mass tourism, in privileged setting, you have from the Ermita an enchanting view of the 'Cap de Formentor' and the bay of Puerto Pollenca. It is an ideal place to settle down. Next to smaller walks one can undertake from here an amount of excursions (on foot, with the mountain bike or by a rental car). Not far from the Ermita (approx. 500 ms downhill) is the small beach of S'Illot. This nice hidden bath bay is used only by the visitors of the peninsula.

Alcudia

History of the Ermita de La Victoria

The massive baroque building has been established in the 14th century and was restored elaborately about 1700. The first hermit was called Diego and he enjoyed the reputation of being an especially capable alchemist. King Alfons V. from Catalonia as a result had the water delivered from this hermitage because it "could cure all not death bringing illnesses ". Here a Gothic Mary's figure is revered, the virgin of La Victoria. According to a legend she was found there by a shepherd in the 13-th century. Carmelites established a chapel for her. 1551 Arabian pirate ships took course to Majorca, robbed, murdered and took the small Madonnas statue. The loss and the grief were large, but behold, on the next day the figure stood again as usual on her place in the church. Seven years later the Madonna was robbed by pirates once more. This time it lasted years; but again she returned home. Because since then pirates have never struck the place again, they call the small Madonna statue also 'Mother of God of victory'.

Lodging and catering

The pilgrimage church with the Gothic picture of the Virgen de la Victoria is just next to the hermitage. A forecourt paved with natural stones and majestic pines invite for staying and resting. Out of former sparse monastery cells of the hermitage 12 comfortable, tastefully furnished guestrooms have originated. All rooms possess an own bath and a central heating. If you look for rest and seclusion and would not like to renounce comfort, this is the right place for you.

The monastery has self-catering! On the well-kept grounds there is a restaurant with a marvelous terrace and sea view. Here good Majorcan kitchen and paella is offered.
