| Ermita de la Victoria |
History of the Ermita de La Victoria The massive baroque building has been established in the 14th century and was restored elaborately about 1700. The first hermit was called Diego and he enjoyed the reputation of being an especially capable alchemist. King Alfons V. from Catalonia as a result had the water delivered from this hermitage because it "could cure all not death bringing illnesses ". Here a Gothic Mary's figure is revered, the virgin of La Victoria. According to a legend she was found there by a shepherd in the 13-th century. Carmelites established a chapel for her. 1551 Arabian pirate ships took course to Majorca, robbed, murdered and took the small Madonnas statue. The loss and the grief were large, but behold, on the next day the figure stood again as usual on her place in the church. Seven years later the Madonna was robbed by pirates once more. This time it lasted years; but again she returned home. Because since then pirates have never struck the place again, they call the small Madonna statue also 'Mother of God of victory'.
